New Marine Conservation Zones under the Marine & Coastal Access ActBalanced Seas Consultation The CEP is to be involved as a consultee for the new Balanced Seas project. Under the new Marine and Coastal Access Act (2009) the government has a responsibility to identify and designate marine protected areas (MPA) in UK coastal and offshore waters. Consultations are began in February 2010 to identify potential areas to be included or avoided. The presentation given at the initial stakeholder meeting can be viewed here, and a summary of the meeting outcomes can be viewed here. A representative from the Colne Estuary Partnership will be attending future consultation meetings to represent the views of the Partnership. The Colne has now been identified as an 'area of interest' for a potential Marine Conservation Zone (See report). More information and reports about progress of the project to date can be found on the Balanced Seas website.
The Balanced seas project produces a newsletter, editions of which can be found below; If you have any opinions about MPA's in and around the Colne estuary area please forward them to info@Colne-estuary.org
